Grok Imagine Pro (retired)

Grok Imagine Pro was the higher-fidelity tier of xAI's image models. xAI retired grok-imagine-image-quality and grok-imagine-image-pro on 2 November 2026. Requests to either name are now served by grok-imagine-image-2.0-low: Grok Imagine 2.0 with quality set to low, at a lower per-image price, with no request changes needed. The samples, settings and prices below record the former Pro model as tested on 9 September 2026; they do not describe the replacement.

Anvisha's take

Pro was the fastest model in our September run, five to eight seconds a picture, and on our prompts it was not obviously better than Grok Imagine 2.0 at medium quality. The poster and infographic text came out right, the market scene was good, and the edit changed the dripper's shape the way 2.0's did. Where 2.0 nailed the hard composition, Pro put six ice cubes in the glass. Those samples remain a historical comparison. For new work, use Grok Imagine 2.0: Pro retired on 2 November 2026 and its API names now serve 2.0 at low quality.

  • •Existing API requests continue without changes, but run as Grok Imagine 2.0 at low quality and are charged at a lower per-image price.

Where to use Grok Imagine Pro

  • xAI retirement notice · grok-imagine-image-quality and grok-imagine-image-pro now serve grok-imagine-image-2.0-low. No request changes are needed.
  • Voyager · Use Grok Imagine 2.0 in Voyager. Pro is retired and is not a separate model choice.

What we noticed running Grok Imagine Pro

  • •Before retirement, Pro was the quickest model in our September run. All twelve pictures came back in 5 to 8 seconds, against a median of a minute for Grok Imagine 2.0 on the same day. These timings do not describe the replacement.
  • •Placement right, count wrong: pencil across the rim, book left, apple right, but six ice cubes rather than three. It also gave the book a title and a library label nobody asked for. See the hard composition picture.
  • •It elaborates. The four headings are exact and in order, each with a paragraph of invented instructions, plus a footer with brewing temperatures the prompt never mentioned. See the infographic with steps picture.
  • •Edits are re-draws. The recolour and brass handle arrived, on a dripper with a spout and a drain hole the original never had. See the edit an existing image picture.
  • •Text exact; the illustration under it is an abstract collage rather than the venue, which is a defensible reading of 'risograph'. See the text in an image picture.
  • •Draws its own maker's logo: the self-portrait carries a small xAI mark in the corner.
  • •Sizes follow xAI's shape list: 1024 by 1024 at square, 864 by 1152 at 3:4, 1408 by 704 for the wide banner (xAI's nearest shape to 21:9 is 2:1).

What Grok Imagine Pro will not draw

xAI's acceptable use policy applies through every host, and fal notes that a request refused on those terms is still charged. In practice the boundaries are the usual ones for a model with a permissive reputation: no sexual or intimate depictions of real people, no sexual, violent or harmful depictions of minors, no election disinformation, no deceptive real-person imagery without disclosure, no impersonation. xAI says generated media goes through content policy review and is not used for training.

How this page is made

Prices, limits and settings are read from the linked vendor and host pages on the dates shown. Every picture was generated by us through fal with the request shown under it, and the original files are kept unedited. A generation that failed is shown as a failure.
